Patches

At GetBold we make several different types of custom patches that we will affix to the garments you order to make a unique custom logo garment.  Below you will see the different styles of patches we offer and what the options for customization are. Once you decide what kind of patch you want, you can make your order selection at the bottom of each product page.

We only make patches that are stitched to garments and sold as a unit (for example, a hat with a patch attached).
We DO NOT sell patches as their own item.

1. Embroidered Patch

Embroidered patches are the most popular of all the patches we make.  They can be made in almost any shape, but if you want the edge merrowed, the shape needs to only bend in one direction. Shapes that turn in and then turn back again, can’t be merrowed. See the image below to explain that better. Embroidered patches can be done on many different colours of twill and the thread colours have many options as well. When ordering a patch on our website your thread colours and twill colour can be communicated to us when you upload your art, in the checkout window. Just tell us what you are looking for in the comments section underneath the artwork upload and we will send you proofs before we make anything.

Adding Merrowed Borders

Merrowed borders only work if the curve of the shape goes in the same ‘turning inward’ direction. If the shape bends back out again, the merrow stitch will bunch up in the narrow parts. Also, sharp corners don’t merrow well.  

For complex shapes, we can embroider stitch the edges. The main difference is that embroider stitching the edges doesn’t wrap around as merrow does. It only stitches up to the edge. See the image.

Printed patches are done using Digitally Printed Transfers. This method prints the design onto transfer paper that is heat pressed to twill and finished with a merrowed or embroidered border. The print will be sharp and smooth with vibrant colours and feel like it is printed on a rubber backing. Printed patches can either have the edges merrowed or embroidered. The patch below that says ARCTIC has an embroidered border. The other three have merrowed borders.

Laser Engraved faux leather patches are a unique way to decorate a hat or sweatshirt or even a jacket. We have two different shades of faux leather that are specially designed for laser engraving. These faux leather patches can be laser cut into just about any shape and the image can be highly detailed. For caps, however, we do suggest that you keep your shape simple for the best results with stitching. Due to the curved nature of the cap, it is difficult to get the stitching to align perfectly with the edges of complex shapes – even circles are tough as the curve of the cap can make the stitching turn egg-shaped. Unfortunately, poorly aligned stitches are very noticeable on caps, so we suggest, for baseball caps,  you stick with squared edges – like the hat in the picture has.
